Rebbachisaurus was a behemoth. There has been some contention about their size, but one thing is for sure – these guys were BIG. Estimates put their size somewhere between 45 – 85 feet tall and 7-40 tons! That makes them one of the largest land animals to have ever walked the face of the earth.
Despite their massive size, their heads (like other Sauropods) were very small. Their long necks allowed them to graze from tall trees, which they likely did often as they required massive calories to sustain their size, and were entirely herbivores. And if being abnormally tall with a small head didn’t make the Rebbachisasurus garasbae stand out enough, he also had large sail like spinal ridge which was supported by massive vertebrae columns.
While no entire skeleton of this particular sauropod has been discovered yet, they are known to have lived in Africa. To date, all remains have been found in the Kem Kem beds of Southeast Morocco. With any luck, further digging will shed more light on these ancient giants.
How do you measure up?

About the fossil:
It’s strange the such a massive creature would have such small teeth. But Rebbachisaurus had a mouth filled with them. The tips show a filed down tip, which was the result of chewing copious quantities of foliage.
