Raptor

Clever girl… well, sorta. The raptors from Jurassic Park are actually part of a much larger class of bipedal animals, who may very well have had birdlike feathers. They stood roughly 3-4 feet tall, and about 6 feet long from nose to tail. This makes them quite a bit smaller than the depiction that made them famous. The one thing that the movies did call correctly was that these carnivorous predators did hunt with a large talon like toe claw that was used to secure, kill, and likely disassemble prey. This was not the kind of guy you want to run into in a dark alley.

How do you measure up?

About this fossil:

Velociraptor is most famous for his massive toe claw. But in the wild you’d be just as worried about his razor sharp teeth! With serrated edges, Raptor could rip and tear flesh with ease. While they match his small size, these teeth are favorite items among fossil collectors.
